Movin and Shakin

Lots going on for the Nail family lately!

Grant and I reluctantly decided to move from our current home to one that is about 6 blocks away. Why are we moving in the middle of July’s 110 degree heat, you ask? Because it is an opportunity that is almost too good to be true. As most of you know, we live in the Oak Forest neighborhood where the homes were built in the 50’s. Our current house has had a lot of work done to it, meaning no pepto bismol pink bathroom etc. but the electrical, duct work and other items are still the original or darn near close to. This means that when Grant’s coffee is brewing, nothing else can be on or when I’m doing laundry, nothing else can be running. I must say that while I’ve become quite accommodating to this no-good breaker box, it can be quite annoying! The new house has anything and everything you can imagine. The rooms are a little bigger, the kitchen is completely updated with granite and new appliances, electrical has been rewired, duct work has been redone, sprinkler system…. the list goes on. Thus leading to our big move July 17th!

Harper has been so active lately… what an amazing feeling! I will start my progesterone shots next week and am soooo not looking forward to it. But, anything to keep this little peanut baking is well worth it. Grant and I did have a few hours to go to Baby’s 1st Furniture this past weekend to make a decision on the fabrics for our bedding. It was quite a task but we settled on a green damask print, rose colored pink polka dot linen and a striped fabric. Below are some swatches that are close to what we were looking at.

This has the same color polka dots stitched on it.

As far as the furniture goes, I thought we had made a decision on it but after further thought I am not in LOVE with it. I really wanted the traditional crib look rather than the convertible with the higher back but it seems to be slim pickens since they are discontinuing the dropside cribs. Always something isn’t it? Who knows what we will decide.

As most of you are aware my granddaddy fell and broke his hip. He has had the first of three surgeries and recovering well. Please continue to pray for a speedy recovery for him.

Father's Day

The whole family headed to dad's for a fabulous Father's Day. Not only was it special because all of us kids were there but it was memorable for me in the fact that I got reflect on my dad and the wonderful father that he has been to me. As Grant and I are headed into the world of parenting the morals and values that our parents have instilled in us become to flourish. My, how fortunate we are for the many blessings in our past and future.

Here are a few of the 100's of pics we took this weekend, enjoy!

Hot, Hot, Hot

The summer is in full swing here in Houston and we have four more months of it! Ugh!! This weekend I went to Landon's swim meet to see him kick some butt. Luckily there was a bit of an overcast that morning so it didn't blaze up until about 11. Whew! All I could think about when I was there is how much I wanted to get into the water to cool off.

After that, Grant and I packed up the kids and headed out to Grandaddy and Grandmommy's house. He fired up the grill and the whole family got to spend some good quality time together. My sisters, Renee and Allie, also have labs - one yellow, one black and one brown. They played in the pond and swam all day; it was the funniest thing to watch. Maverick, Renee's dog was the champ as he retrieved almost every throw. Allie's dog, Shiner, had his first day of swimming and has a little catching up to do with the big dawgs :) He's more like a baby deer hopping around with his pogo stick legs. Hopefully I'll have some pics to post soon!

Looking forward to Father's Day weekend!

Houston, We Have a Kicker

Yesterday was the first day that I felt Harper move around a lot. As we all know, she has been a very active baby and I'm sure that will be quite lovely in a couple of months when she's able to actually wake me up at night. What a neat feeling though! Such a mysterious and wonderful bond between a mother and child before she's even here in our arms.

Being the planner that I am, I can see where the anxiety of getting things ready for her arrival could take over anyone's life. So much to read, so much to do and before we know it, she'll be here. I will have to stop myself from wanting to tear down the guest room just yet, ha ha. I remember when Allie was pregnant and how the nesting instinct took over. Amazing how things work!

During our last doctor's visit Grant and I discussed the option, once again, of the Progesterone therapy. Since my uterine wall has been weakened from the surgery I had last November, I am a candidate for pre-term labor. Not to say that I will have PTL but that I could.... After discussing and praying about it for a month we have decided that it is probably best to take what precautions we can to give our baby the best chance of making it full term. I will begin the Progesterone therapy at 22 weeks. A nursing service will actually come to our house to administer the shots so it should be a very easy process. Here are the pictures from our level II ultrasound....

Its a girl!! Eventhough she was breech Dr. P. was able to get a good look!

Getting the Itch

I thought I would check in and let you know what is going on in the Nail world. Work has been very busy for Grant and me but I am happy about that! More business means more money for us and who doesn't love not having to stress about $$?

I am feeling better as the weeks pass with a little morning sickness here and there. My tummy is getting bigger by the day and starting to get in my way. Fat rolls will tuck in here and there when you bend over but a baby roll goes no where… Grant came home with a staph infection on Monday night so that has been rather interesting. Neither of us has had it before so the first night I had Grant stripping the beds and putting everything he had touched into the laundry in fear of catching the nasty stuff and come to find out -- the next day I might add -- he's not even contagious. I guess our house got a nice spring cleaning :) His hand still has a lot of pain however the blisters have not opened nor has the redness progressed so we are grateful for that.

This morning was just one of those mornings for us. I get the phone call at 8:40 am. “Do you have Harley with you?” Hello, I’m at the office and no, I don’t. Grant turns the house upside down and still nothing. He’s screaming ‘treat” down the street, in his shirt and tie mind you, and said even the lawn men were looking at him like he was nuts. I get in my car and no more than 1 minute later I get the call….. I found him…. He was locked in the laundry room. You know the bedding I spoke of earlier that is patiently waiting to be washed free of Staph? Well, Harley has made him a sweet little nest out of that and was warm and toasty. Dang dog. Then our story continues…. I get the third phone call…. You’re never going to believe this but my car keys are in the door of your car. What?! Not only was Grant an hour late for work from the missing dog but now he had to wait for his keys to be delivered by our courier. What a morning!!
